Matt Stillwell — Artist Bio
Matt Stillwell is a country singer-songwriter and storyteller whose music is rooted in lived experience, family, and community. Raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Sylva, North Carolina, Stillwell brings a grounded, heartfelt perspective to his songs — writing about legacy, loss, hometown pride, and the moments that shape who we become.
Before music took center stage, Stillwell was an All-Conference baseball player at Western Carolina University, helping lead the Catamounts to a Southern Conference Championship. That same discipline and team-first mentality eventually carried over into his music career, where consistency, connection, and trust have defined his path.
Over the course of seven albums, Stillwell has built a catalog that has resonated widely, amassing over 16 million streams, reaching listeners through 300+ playlists, and generating a cumulative playlist reach of more than 2.4 million. His music has appeared on the Billboard charts 27 times, while his growing audience of more than 300,000 followers reflects a fanbase built over time — not overnight.
His most personal release to date, “Hey Dad,” written as a tribute to his late father, has become a defining song in his career, surpassing 5 million streams and more than 15 million video views. The song has emerged as a cornerstone of his live performances, offering audiences space for reflection and shared humanity.
In 2019, Stillwell stripped everything down to just himself and an acoustic guitar and launched the Hometown House Party Tour — a grassroots approach to live music built around intimacy, storytelling, and genuine connection. What began as a promotional idea quickly evolved into a new way of touring, particularly during the pandemic, as Stillwell continued bringing music directly into communities across the country.
Beyond the stage, Stillwell’s work is deeply connected to purpose. He is the founder of BEAT ALS and the 723 Foundation, organizations dedicated to funding ALS research, supporting individuals and families affected by ALS, and increasing awareness through meaningful partnerships, curated events, and storytelling. Through benefit concerts, songwriter rounds, and community-driven initiatives, Stillwell uses music as a vehicle to bring people together around a cause that is both personal and urgent.
Now based in Knoxville, Tennessee, Stillwell lives with his wife Lindsey and their two daughters, Carolina and Ruby. Whether performing live, writing songs, or building mission-driven experiences, he remains focused on what has always mattered most — telling real stories and creating moments that connect people in lasting ways.
